
On 15 October 2024, President Joko Widodo officially enacted Law Number 61 of 2024 on State Ministries, amending Law Number 39 of 2008 ("Law 61/2024"). The objective of the Law 61/2024 is to establish a government framework that is both effective and efficient. Accordingly, the amendment seeks to restructure governance to promote a more inclusive, transparent, contextual, and responsive administration that aligns with public needs. The implementation of these changes is evident, as the President-elect has appointed 104 ministers and deputy ministers. Nonetheless, the enactment of Law 61/2024 has encountered opposition, with critics voicing concerns about possible policy overlaps and increased budgetary expenditures.
